BOLIVIA

Bolivian Style
Many of the artists in Bolivia have a very distinct style of painting. They often depict groups of people huddled together, appearing to be extremely cold, and hunched over like life is weighing down on them. Their figures are often block-ish. I found it to be a very unique style of painting that I really enjoyed and this image is based on that Bolivian Style.

Bolivians in Town
Since my visit to Bolivia, Bolivian artists have influenced my work. I love their block-ish portrayal of people, symmetry, and use of color. Bolivia is a beautiful country and its easy to see how it inspires such a unique style of painting.

Bowler Hats

The old-fashioned, English bowler hats are an important fashion accessory for Bolivian women. A local told me that many years ago, the English were trying to get rid of their excess supply and sent the hats to Bolivia. While the men showed no interest, the women took to them and the hats are now a symbol of fertility.

Sucre Church

Sucre, Bolivia is a beautiful town of white-washed buildings. Nestled in a valley, it’s numerous church bells can be viewed from the surrounding hills. On Sundays, women dress for church, some in white hats with long, flowing ribbons.

PANAMA

Latin Bus
I love the vibrant colors of Latin America. Colorful buses roam through the countryside carrying passengers and their belongings. In Panama, Diablos Rojos (Red Devils) zoom through the streets, decorated with stickers and slogans and trinkets hanging from their rear-view mirrors. I think if we decorated our buses like the Red Devils, many more people would enjoy the morning commute.

MEXICO

Mariachis

I love Latin music. The sound of it makes my body start swaying and its energy makes me want to get up and dance. With their colorful costumes and fun rhythms, Mariachis are a great addition to any fiesta.

Fiesta
This painting brings together all the things I love about Mexico: the music, the dancing, and the brightly colored houses. People often gather in the town squares and flags decorate the city streets. Fiestas in Mexico are definitely a treat.

PERU

Peru Village
I love the colorful art of Peru. Some of my favorite paintings depict village life as people go about their daily lives. Working in the fields, going to markets, celebrating. This painting is based on that style – colorful and detailed, showing village life in the Andes.

Peruvian Scene
In Cusco, Peru the Museo de Inka (Inca Museum) is definitely worth a visit. I was mesmerized by one painting in particular. Divided into about 70 small squares, each square depicted a different scene of life in the Andes. Small details such as the colorful tablecloths, kernels of corn, and stars in the sky made each square worthy of its own canvas. My painting is an example of one of the small squares of this Peruvian masterpiece.

ARGENTINA

La Boca
La Boca is an area of Buenos Aires that draws tourists with its brightly colored buildings, art and tango performances. Visitors admire the bright buildings, artists line the colorful streets to sell their paintings and couples dance the sultry tango. And this is just a taste of what Buenos Aires has to offer.

BRAZIL

Carnaval
Carnaval in Rio. Percussion beats can be heard throughout the city as men pick up their drums. Women with skimpy yet elaborate costumes dance the samba in the parade. Its an endless sea of color and an amazing feast for the eyes.
